Sourton Village Hall
A venue for all occasions
Set in a stunning location at the base of Sourton Tor on Dartmoor, only one mile from the A30 and right by the A386, Sourton Village Hall is an ideally placed venue for business, educational and social events.
Situated in the village of Sourton, on the A386 between Okehampton and Tavistock, and close to the Granite Way cycling and walking Route 27, Sourton Village Hall is frequently used as a very handy base for outdoor training and expeditions on Dartmoor, especially the Ten Tors, cycling and running events, being only a two-minute walk from the gate onto Dartmoor. The hall is also a popular location for social events, such as wedding receptions, family parties, wakes, bingo, quizzes, cream teas, concerts and dances. With free wi-fi, it is great for conferences, training events, seminars, meetings and classes.
The hall’s facilities comprise a large main hall with a stage area, a small meeting room a well-appointed kitchen, toilets and a wheelchair accessible toilet. There is also an outside patio area which is often used as a bar for an event held in the main hall or extra outside space for seating.
The history of Sourton Village Hall
Fundraising for a village hall in Sourton started after the Second World War by holding whist drives and barn dances at Sleekers Farm in Sourton. The land was given to Sourton Parish by the Leawood Estate to enable a hall to be built. Work started in 1962, but it wasn’t completed until 1963, due the very bad winter and spring. Okehampton Builders built the hall and it was eventually opened on September 13th 1963.
